Editorial Reviews

In the Editorial Reviews section of your book's Product Detail Page, you can update Product Description, About the Author, From the Author, From the Inside Flap, From the Back Cover, and Reviews.

Important: Once you make a change to a section, your publisher will not be able to make any further changes to the same section. Your publisher can still make changes to other sections, but not to that one. If you believe this may cause your publisher concern, please consult them before making changes.

How to update Editorial Reviews

To update the Editorial Reviews for your title:

  1. Log in to Author Central.
  2. Click the Books tab at the top of the page.
  3. Click on the book you are updating editorial reviews for and select the applicable edition as each can be updated separately. Under Editorial Reviews, there are three possible links:

        • If you are entering From the Author, From the Inside Flap, From the Back Cover, or About the Author, you do not need to enter a source.
      2. Click Preview and review your entry.
      3. When you're satisfied, click Save changes.

    • If there is a review you can edit:
      1. Click Edit and make the desired changes to the text.
      2. Click Preview and review the entry.
      3. When you're satisfied, click Save changes.

    • If we have manually edited your Editorial Review in the past:
      1. Click Request a correction and follow the instructions on the form.
      2. We will make the updates for you.

Your submissions will appear on the website in 3 to 5 days.

Editorial Review FAQs

  • Why do I get a message that my content is too long?

The character counts (including spaces) for Editorial Review fields are limited to:

    • Review—20000 characters. For hardcover and paperback books, the character counts for the text box are limited to 4000 and you can add up to five reviews. For Kindle books, you can add all of your reviews at once in the box.
    • Product Description—2400 characters
    • From the Author, From the Inside Flap, and From the Back Cover—8000 characters
    • About the Author—2000 characters

For reference, a single page of 12 point text is approximately 2100 characters.

  • Why do I get a message that Editorial Reviews are not supported for this book?

This can happen if your book is only sold by third party vendors Amazon.

What if there's a duplicate review on the page?

For up to three hours after making updates, you may see duplicate editorial reviews. After three hours, please contact us via the link on the side of any Help page.

  • Why do I get a message about invalid HTML tags?

To keep reviews simple, we allow only limited formatting. If you paste your review from a word processor, you might receive a message about invalid HTML tags. Instead, try pasting from a plain text editor, such as Notepad. Or click the "edit HTML" tab to trim out everything except the basic formatting tags for italics (<em> or <i>), bold (<b> or < strong >), line breaks (<br>), and lists (<ul> or <ol> and <li>).

  • Do I have to update every format of the same book?

If each has its own unique information, you should update each separately. If an edition doesn't have content in an editorial section, it will show the content from one of the other editions, with a note at the end, such as "This text refers to the Paperback edition."
